Dear Guru Maharaj
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to You and SP.
Thank you very much for answering my last two emails I thought your answers were wonderful I learned some things from them I had a question about what you said at the end of the last email regarding Krishna is God this is what you wrote at the end of the last email …”As far as if I am sure that Krishna is God, yes I am sure. The limited understanding and realization I have make me sure of this 100%.”
When you said this my first impression was that you said this because you were trying to be humble and not say that you have learned a lot and had a lot of realizations? but in reality I think that you do have a lot of realizations and you do understand a lot . so I am confused about that last part because I can’t make sense of it .how can you know 100% that krsna is God because you have limited understanding and realizations? I don’t understand how by having limited realizations and understanding would make you understand that Krishna is God?
I’m very confused by this. Is it that krsna is so great and amazing that you have limited understanding and realizations about him and his past times? that because you cannot understand him that makes you realize that he is God ? Or were you just following the spiritual master etiquette by remaining humble and saying that you have limited realizations and understanding ? so you were just being humble by saying that and this was your humble answer of saying you know that Krishna is God?
How can the limited understanding and realization that you have made make you sure that Krishna is God 100% ?
Thank you very much for responding to my emails. I always love hearing your answers.
Dear Bhakta Richard,
Please receive my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
The verse 1.18.19 of the Srimad-Bhagavatam explains the point you are asking.
kutaḥ punar gṛṇato nāma tasya
yo ’nanta-śaktir bhagavān ananto
mahad-guṇatvād yam anantam āhuḥ
“And what to speak of those who are under the direction of the great devotees, chanting the holy name of the Unlimited, who has unlimited potency? The Personality of Godhead, unlimited in potency and transcendental by attributes, is called Ananta (Unlimited).”
In this verse the name Ananta appears three times. Anta means “end” and “a” is a sanskrit prefix meaning denial. It’s a name of Krishna, meaning that He is unlimited and has unlimited potencies. Everything concerning Him and His direct creation is infinite.
Studying geometry at school we learned that a line is by definition infinite, while a segment is finite. Even if a segment is very large, it would still be impossible to establish a numeric proportion between the infinite and the finite.
Similarly doesn’t matter how much one knows about Krishna or how advanced is he in Krishna Consciousness, since the Lord is infinite and the practitioner is finite, he has limited knowledge and realization.
It would be a mistake to think that one has to know everything to achieve perfection in life. This is impossible. One has to know what is quantitatively natural. If knowledge is pure, doesn’t matter how much knowledge he could have, he is situated in the perfect platform. Quantity helps but purity is the main point.
So by saying “in my limited knowledge and realization” I was not being humble but I was being real.
