The six obstacles to advancement in Bhakti are mentioned in the second verse:
atyaharah prayasas ca
prajalpo niyamagrahah
jana-sangas ca laulyam ca
sadbhir bhaktir vinasyati
Devotional service is ruined when one gets too entangled in the following activities: (1) eating more than necessary or raising more money than necessary, (2) exerting too much effort for worldly things that are difficult to obtain, (3) unnecessarily talking about worldly matters, (4) practicing the rules given by the scriptures just to follow them, and not for spiritual advancement, or rejecting them by acting independently or on whim, (5) associating with people motivated by worldly thoughts not interested in Krishna consciousness, and (6) being greedy for worldly results.
