Ravana Sees the Enemy’s Army
Ravana decided to go and check for himself.
Along with others, he nervously climbed the stairs of his highest tower and as soon as he looked out he saw a breathtaking view.
Not far from the city walls, an immense living carpet teeming with Vanaras stretched as far as the eye could see. It was unbelievable. Millions and millions of mighty enemies were making their way slowly but surely towards the city. It looked like an unstoppable sea of warriors thirsty for blood and justice!
Ravana was impressed. He turned to Sharana.
“Loyal friend, who are the leaders of this immense army? Tell me about them and show me their abilities.”
Sharana pointed to Hanuman, Sugriva, Angada, Nila, Nala, Jambavan, and he detailed their personal strength. Then he talked about all the other leaders, describing them as invincible warriors on the battlefield, all with terrible prowess.
Angered, Ravana expelled Shuka and Sharana from the court and sent more Raksasas to spy on the enemy hoping that they would bring more optimistic news. But these others also returned to their king and reported the same things to him, and they too were hysterically chased away.
Troubled, Ravana was afraid of losing the war and above all he was afraid of losing Sita, whom he madly desired. He decided to make another attempt to conquer her and avoid war.
