A question on the transformation of the functions

Question

Srimad-Bhagavatam 5.11.11

Dear Guru Mahārāja
Please accept my humble obeisances.  All glories to You and SP.

“The physical elements, nature, the original cause, culture, destiny and the time element are all material causes. Agitated by these material causes, the eleven functions transform into hundreds of functions and then into thousands and then into millions. But all these transformations do not take place automatically by mutual combination. Rather, they are under the direction of the Supreme Personality of Godhead.”

In this verse I understand that the functions are under the control of Krishna.

But can You explain to me how the material causes agitate the 11 functions and transform into millions of functions?  And I don’t understand how the material causes interact with the 11 functions?  And what are some examples of the millions of functions?

I’m not completely sure how to ask my question about this.

I’m really confused about the transformation of the functions, etc.  I hope my questions are clear enough for You to understand.  This verse is very confusing to me.  Thank You.

Answer

Dear Bhakta ***,
Please receive my blessings. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

You sent me a question much similar to this one not long ago. Please read my answer to that letter.

This is not a topic that can be discussed in a few lines but it would take time. It’s like if you go to your professor and on the first day you ask questions that requires complex explanations. You’ll have them but in due course of time.

Go ahead reading the Sriad-Bhagavatam even if you do not understand it all.
