Srimad-Bhagavatam (1.7.4-6) adds:
bhakti-yogena manasi
samyak pranihite ‘male
apasyat purusam purnam
mayam ca tad-apasrayam
yaya sammohito jiva
atmanam tri-gunatmakam
paro ‘pi manute’ nartham
tat-krtam cabhipadyate
anarthopasamam saksad
bhakti-yogam adhoksaje
With his mind perfectly fixed in the unifying practice of devotional service and free from all material contamination, he sees the Supreme and Absolute Lord together with His external energy, completely dominated by Him. Under the influence of this external energy, the individual being, although transcendental to the three influences of material nature, believes itself to be a product of matter and must therefore know the sufferings of this world. The unifying practice of devotional service has the power to directly alleviate the superfluous material suffering of an individual being.
