The Parampara System of Spiritual Succession

In the tenth section, the Gosvami Maharaja says just this and recommends that everyone study the Vedic texts, adding an element of fundamental importance, namely, that the Vedas have been transmitted from time immemorial through an unbroken line of spiritual succession. This refers to the well-known “parampara system”.

In principle, divine knowledge generally cannot be the result of the enlightenment of a single person. If we accept the words of anyone who informs us that they have had a spiritual vision, it is very likely that we are victims of a cheater.

The revelation of the Truth is produced by the teaching received, addressing an authentic teacher who in turn has learned it from an equally authentic guru. In this way the truth can descend intact to this day. No educated person will accept a teacher or a philosophy that does not come from a recognized parameter. It is the first (though certainly not the only) quality required of a spiritual master, from whom one wishes to receive the knowledge of Krsna.

In the twelfth section, Jiva Gosvami presents five references from the Brahma Sutra (or Vedanta Sutra), the Bhagavata Purana and the Maha-bharata on the importance of Vedic knowledge as a source of perfect knowledge. But of course, these are just a few of the numerous testimonies.
