The Mighty Indrajit
Ravana’s son was in possession of a particular weapon called naga-pasa, which produced snakes from the arrows that bound or killed those affected by them. With great dexterity Indrajit threw the deadly weapon and, badly wounded, Rama and Laksmana fell to the ground, motionless. They looked dead. When the Vanaras saw their condition, they became desperate and tried to bring them back to their senses. There was a certain uproar among the Vanaras, who believed themselves to be without a guide and no longer knew who to receive orders from. The battle became chaotic. Instead, Indrajit returned to his father and told him the good news. Ravana gave a cry of victory:
“We’re finally back to us! Those men cannot stand on the battlefield against our best warriors. Guards, order the women who watch over Sita to lead her into the field and show her in which condition Rama is!”
