The Mahabharata in the Vedas
The Vedas are divided into various literary groups and one of them is called Itihasa.
It is considered that Itihasa are only two books: the Ramayana and the Mahabharata. These are history books. In fact, Itihasa means exactly this (iti + hasa = “so it was” or “this happened”). So what is told in the Itihasa has actually happened and are not imaginative stories.
Apart from the spiritual beauty of the stories, there are other reasons why these two works are particularly important, one of which is that they are the historical foundation of all that is considered to be Vedic literature. If one reads any Purana (other history books) without having read the Ramayana and Mahabharata, it will be difficult for him to decipher people, places and concepts.
This is a section of the book “On a Silver Platter”.
