Sita on the Battlefield
Carried on the Puspaka chariot, Sita saw the battlefield, where thousands of people were risking their lives for her. There was a thick dust, and the spectacle of death was frightening. She saw her husband lying on the ground and wept desperately, believing him dead. But then she calmed down when she remembered:
«The wise men of the forest foretold me that I will never be a widow and that I would become a mother. Those saints’ predictions cannot be false. Rama cannot be dead. Maybe he’s hurt, or maybe he’s passed out».
Just as she was absorbed in those thoughts, Trijata approached her.
“Sita, you have no reason to worry,” she whispered in her ear. “The divine energy, its mercy and benevolence are on your side. Righteousness is your weapon and it can never fail; it will never be defeated. You will soon be freed from this unjust imprisonment.”
Sita was taken back.
Laboriously, Rama moved an arm. Then the other. The Vanaras cried out for joy. He wasn’t dead! He gradually regained consciousness and stood up. He saw Laksmana lying on the ground. Not being able to get him to recover, he feared he’d lost it. In the middle of that scary fear Garuda, the eagle who eternally carries Vishnu and who is the enemy of snakes, appeared and sent the naga-pasa to flight.
Laksmana gradually returned to consciousness. Seeing Rama and Laksmana free from the weapon of the terrible son of Ravana, the Vanaras produced even louder cries of joy, which were heard by the Raksasas. Everyone returned to the battle with irrepressible enthusiasm.
