Bad Warning Signs
Malyavan was one of the oldest and wisest Raksasas and was highly respected in the court. Seeing worse warning signs, he advised Ravana to return Sita and make peace with Rama.
Ravana roared like a lion.
“What kind of spell has this insignificant being cast on my collaborators, even the closest ones, to make everyone fear him? Have you forgotten that I am Ravana? I am Ravana! I have defeated the greatest Devas in combat; and now I should be afraid of two men and a handful of monkeys? Have you all become cowards? Or has age obscured your sight and reason? Alone, I, my children and Kumbhakarna can destroy the whole universe. No one will ever be able to say that Ravana was afraid, or that he withdrew from a challenge!”
Crying out, Ravana retired to his chambers.
That same evening the armies took up a fighting stance. War was now inevitable.
The Raksasas and the Vanaras scrutinized and studied each other, armed to the teeth. Rama and his closest collaborators ascended the Suvala mountain and had an overview of Lanka. In that waiting, the night passed.
