Sri Jiva now begins to deal with the excellence of the Bhagavata. The Skanda and the Padma Purana clearly assert their superiority over any other Scripture.
In the Padma Purana it says:
“O Ambarisa, if you wish to end the cycle of deaths and rebirths, you must listen to the Bhagavata daily, as taught by Sukadeva Gosvami, and then you must recite it with your own lips.” (Padma Purana, Uttara khanda sec. 22)
The Skanda Purana (Visnu Khanda 16.40.42.44.331) says:
“If in Kali-yuga a person does not have a Bhagavatam in his house, what is the use of having hundreds and thousands of other scriptures? How can one who does not have a Srimad-Bhagavatam in his house be considered a Vaishnava or a Brahmana? He should be considered an outcast. Oh, Narada; Oh, wise One! In Kali-yuga, wherever the Bhagavatam is, Hari goes along with all the demigods. O Muni, the pious soul who daily recites a verse of the Bhagavatam reaps the fruits of the eighteen Puranas.”
Therefore, particularly in Kali-yuga, Srimad-Bhagavatam is an irreplaceable text and we invite everyone to study it.
“This Purana has risen like the sun for the blind in the age of Kali.” (Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.43)
Jiva Gosvami adds:
“Therefore, we can conclude that, in the present age, only the study of the Bhagavata Purana is needed to understand the highest truth.”
