The Vanaras

Their hypothesis was correct. The Vanaras, always on the alert, had already spotted them. At that moment Sugriva himself was watching them secretly. After having examined them sufficiently, he withdrew and convened the council of ministers. Sugriva was visibly worried and commented:

“Have you seen those two strangers? Their bearing is that of the kshatriyas, who are proud and noble warriors. I’m sure they’re brave in combat, too. Could they be Vali’s men who came to kill me?”

Jambavan spoke first:

“We are not sure if they are enemies. So there is no need to be alarmed ahead of time. I think we should send someone to them to find out about their intentions.”

Hanuman took up Jambavan’s proposal.

“He’s right. There is no need to be afraid. I can go to those two young warriors to try to know their true intentions.”
