According to Valmiki Ramayana, we all know that monkeys and bears had built Ramsetu at the behest of Lord Shri Ram while marching on Lanka. But when Ramacandra went to Lanka again to meet Vibhishana, he himself broke a part of Ramsetu, very few people know this. The story related to this is described in the creation section of Padma Purana.
That’s why Shriram went to Lanka According to Padma Purana, one day after becoming the king of Ayodhya, Lord Shriram got the idea of Vibhishan. He thought that after the death of Ravana, how Vibhishana is ruling Lanka, he has no problem. When Shri Ram was thinking this, at the same time Bharat also came there.
When asked by Bharat, Shriram told him the whole thing. Shriram thinks of going to Lanka when such a thought comes to his mind. Bharat also agrees to go with them. By handing over the responsibility of protecting Ayodhya to Laxman, Shriram and Bharata go to Lanka on Pushpak Viman.
When Sugriva and Vibhishana met Shri Ram
When Shri Ram and Bharat Pushpak are going to Lanka by plane, the city of Kishkindha comes on the way. Shri Ram and Bharat stay there for a while and meet Sugriva along with other monkeys. When Sugriva learns that Rama and Bharata are on their way to Lanka to meet Vibhishana, he joins them.
On the way Shri Ram shows Bharat the bridge which was built by monkeys and bears on the sea. When Vibhishana learns that Shri Ram, Bharat and Sugriva are coming to Lanka, he asks to decorate the entire city. Vibhishan is very happy to meet Shri Ram, Bharat and Sugriva.
That’s why Lord Ram broke Ramsetu!
Shriram stays in Lanka for three days and gives Vibhishan the knowledge of religion and unrighteousness and says that you should always rule this city righteously.
When Shriram again sits on Pushpak Viman to go to Ayodhya, Vibhishan tells him that – Shriram, I will rule righteously as you have told me. But what should I do when humans will come here and persecute me through this bridge?
On Vibhishan’s saying so, Shri Ram cut that bridge into two pieces with his arrows. Then after dividing it into three parts, he also broke the middle part with his arrows. In this way Shriram himself had broken Ramsetu.
