What Rāmānuja said about Buddha?

As far as I am aware Rāmānuja never names his opponents in debate. He only argues against their points of view which he finds objectionable. He wrote extensive polemics refuting Advaita but not once did he make any disparaging remarks about Shankarācārya himself.

According to the rules of Tarka (argument and debate) the moment you attack your opponent’s character you have lost the debate.

It has also been argued that the “Buddha” who was claimed as the avatāra of Viṣṇu is not the historical Buddha. The Puranas give totally wrong biographical information about him.

The Srimad Bhagavatam – the last of the Puranas says:– buddho nāmnāñjana-sutaḥ kīkaṭeṣu bhaviṣyati – “Buddha, who is the son of Anjana will appear in Kikata (Gaya)”.

So we know for a fact Buddha was born Siddhārtha Gautama in Kapilavastu in Nepal. So these are two different people.
