Third Theme: Sri Jiva Gosvami remembers his gurus

After offering homages to Sri Krishna and his Ista-devata, in the third section the author offers due respect to the preceptor saints Rupa Gosvami and Sanatana Gosvami. The Vaishnava tradition contemplates different types of gurus. Sri Rupa was the Master initiator (mantra-guru) of Sri Jiva, who however also regarded Sri Sanatana as his own guru. In all genuine spiritual traditions, the presence and intervention of the spiritual Master is considered necessary for the purpose of spiritual advancement.

This book, the Bhagavata-sandarbha, of which the Tattva-sandarbha is the first chapter, was written on behalf of Sri Rupa and Sri Sanatana.
