“ISKCON” Top Sannyasi Celebrates
Ringo Starr’s Birthday
Jul 10, 2016 — CANADA (SUN) —
As we’ve watched Radhanath Swami clamor for attention at his various book tour speaking engagements, we knew it was only a matter of time before he’d manage to get himself up on the stage at a rock concert. Here he is, making a small step in that direction…
Although getting camera time at Ringo Starr’s birthday bash isn’t exactly an arena gig with U2, at least Radhanath got his face out there. He did look a bit disappointed when Ringo passed him over while inviting friends to say a personal birthday greeting into the microphone. And then we thought his moment in the limelight had come when Ringo was pointing out various famous guests on stage, and looked over in Radhanath’s direction… but he only pointed out the big fluffy cake. Ignoring entirely the big fluffy sannyasi.
Nonetheless, as Joe Walsh said, when the photo op was over all the famous people could go back home and watch TV, and say to themselves: “Boy, I made a big difference today!”
As Srila Prabhupāda comments:
satāṁ prasaṅgān mama vīrya-saṁvido
bhavanti hṛt-karṇa-rasāyanāḥ kathāḥ
taj-joṣaṇād āśv apavarga-vartmani
śraddhā ratir bhaktir prasīdati
[SB 3.25.25]
“Satāṁ prasaṅgāt. Sat-saṅga. Sat-saṅga. Sat means devotees, and asat means nondevotees. Even in moral instruction of Cāṇakya Paṇḍita, he advises = tyaja durjana-saṁsargaṁ bhaja sādhu-samāgamam. Cāṇakya Paṇḍita adv… Although he was a politician, a great politician, still, a learned brāhmaṇa and knowing all moral instruction, he gives this advice = tyaja durjana-saṁsargam.
This is the crucial point of advancement in human life. Tyaja durjana-saṁsargam: “Try to avoid.” Not try; must. You must avoid the association of the materialistic persons. Materialistic person means those who are after money and woman. That’s all. They are materialistic. Those persons, simply hankering after money and woman, they are materialistic.
Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu has advised to associate with this class of men, hankering after money and women, it is better…, death is better, preferred, than to associate.”
(Srila Prabhupada, Bhagavatam class in Mayapur, 1973)
