I am of Vaishya Varna (Prajapati). Are the rules of wearing sacred thread different for me, e.g., there’s no issue eating meat?

The same rules and regulations apply to initiated vaishyas as they do to brahmins.

The only difference is that you cannot

(1) teach the Vedas,

(2) perform rituals for others nor

(3) accept bhiksha (alms) and donations.

 

If you do not perform Sandhya Vandana for 72 hours you revert to default Sudra status and if you wish to be reinstated you will need to perform prāyaścitta (atonement) pay a fine in the form of providing a feast for all your community and undergo your upanayana again.
