Four Types of Misfortune or Anartha

posted in: English, Kadacha ENG 0

Krishna, the energy of Krishna and the living entity together constitute the Absolute Truth. Deluded by maya, the living entity binds itself to it. This is known as anartha. When the microscopic conscious living entity practices bhakti-yoga, all anarthas are destroyed and it attains Krishna-prema. This truth was realized by Vyasadeva due to total absorption in the name of the Lord, etc. Consequently, He revealed the method of bhakti-yoga in Srimad-Bhagavatam.

In the Amnaya-sutra, four types of misfortune or anartha are described:

mayamugdhasya jivasya

jneyo ‘narthas catur vidhah

hrddaurbbalyam caparadho

‘sat-trsna tattva-vibhramah

Four types of anartha are attributed to the living entity attracted to maya: hrdaya-daurbalya (weakness of heart), aparadha (all kinds of offenses), asat-trsna (material desires), and tattva-vibhrama (the illusion concerning spiritual knowledge). These anarthas lead to material bondage, which leads to suffering.
