The original Vedas are preserved in the minds of Brahmins who have learned them by heart and transmitted them in perfect form to their students for over 7000 years.
There are still gurukulas in India today in which young students learn to recite the entire text by heart.
The “sanctity” of the learned brahmins was based on this fact alone – that they were the custodians and preservers of India’s textual inheritance.
