A short version:
Nanda Grama (or Nandagaon) is the town of Nanda Maharaja, the father of Sri Krishna, build on a hill known as Nandisvara. On top of the hill there is the palace of Nanda Maharaja where he lived there with his four brothers Upananda, Abhinanda, Sunanda and Nandana.
Lord Siva asked the boon of being able to see Krishna’s childhood pastimes and so he became Nandisvara Hill and waited for the Lord’s appearance. Wanting to please His pure devotee, Sri Krishna performed His early pastimes (childhood, balya and boyhood, pauganda) on this place.
Not long time before Krishna’s appearance lived a Rajarsi called Devamidha. He had two wives, one who came from a warrior family and the other who came from a family of shepherds.
The ksatriya wife gave birth to Surasena and the vaisya wife gave birth to Parjanya.
Surasena fathered Vasudeva and others.
Parjanya dedicated his life to agriculture and rearing cows. He married Variyasi and resided near Nandisvara Hill.
Parjanya had the desire to have exalted progeny and pleased sage Narada who gave him a mantra. He prayed Lord Siva in the close place called Asisesvara and received the blessing to have five wonderful sons, the middle of which would have been particularly exalted, as the Supreme Lord will appear as his son. This is Nanda Maharaja.
Disturbed by demons like Kesi, Nanda Maharaja decided to move to Mahavana and there Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personalities of Godhead, appeared.
But after some time there also were disturbances by demons, like Putana, Trnavarta and Sakatasura, so they moved again to Chattikara, on the other side of the Yamuna. After to Kamyavana, Khelanvana and other places before finally returning to live at the old place of Nanda’s father, Parjanya, in Nandisvara Hill.
Krishna arrived on this place when He was about three years old and many of His early pastimes took place here.
Nanda Grama is situated sixteen miles north-west of Govardhana, eight miles south of Kosi and twenty-eight miles west of Vrndavana.
The parikrama of Nanda Grama is four miles.
There are fifty-six ponds related to Sri Krishna’s various pastimes here and it takes about three to four days to have darsana of them all.
