But as soon as I saw You, the original Personality of Godhead, I experienced the same bliss.\u201d This perverted reflection of mellows is called <em>\u015b\u0101nta-uparasa,<\/em> or a perverted reflection of mixed impersonalism and personalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208361\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">There is another statement as follows: \u201cWherever I am glancing I simply see Your personality. Therefore I know that You are the uncontaminated Brahman effulgence, the supreme cause of all causes. I think that there is nothing but You in this cosmic manifestation.\u201d This is another example of <em>uparasa,<\/em> or a perverted reflection of impersonalism and personalism.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208362\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When Madhuma\u1e45gala, an intimate friend of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, was dancing before K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a in a joking manner, no one was paying attention to him, and he jokingly said, \u201cMy dear Lord, please be merciful upon me. I am praying for Your mercy.\u201d This is an example of <em>uparasa<\/em> in fraternal affection and neutrality.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208363\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Ka\u1e41sa once addressed his sister Devak\u012b as follows: \u201cMy dear sister, having seen your dear son K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, I think that He is so strong that He can kill even wrestlers as strong as the mountains. So I will have no more anxieties about Him even if He is engaged in a terrible fight.\u201d This is an instance of <em>uparasa<\/em> in a perverted reflection of parental love.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208364\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">In the <em>Lalita-m\u0101dhava,<\/em> \u015ar\u012bla R\u016bpa Gosv\u0101m\u012b says, \u201cThe wives of the <em>y\u0101j\u00f1ika-br\u0101hma\u1e47as<\/em> were all young girls, and they were attracted to K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a in the same way as the <em>gop\u012bs<\/em> of V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana. Out of their attraction, they distributed food to K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a.\u201d Here the two devotional mellows are conjugal love and parental love, and the result is called <em>uparasa<\/em> in conjugal love.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208365\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">One of the friends of \u015ar\u012bmat\u012b R\u0101dh\u0101r\u0101\u1e47\u012b told Her, \u201cMy dear friend G\u0101ndharvik\u0101 [R\u0101dh\u0101r\u0101\u1e47\u012b], You were the most chaste girl in our village, but now You have divided Yourself and are partially chaste and partially unchaste. It is all due to Cupid\u2019s influence upon You after You saw K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a and heard the sound of His flute.\u201d This is another example of <em>uparasa<\/em>caused by divided interests in conjugal love.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208366\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">According to some expert learned scholars, the feelings between lover and beloved create perverted reflections of mellows in many ways.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208367\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u201cThe <em>gop\u012bs<\/em> have become purified by K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a\u2019s glance, and as such, Cupid\u2019s influence is distinctly visible on their bodies.\u201d Although in the material sense the glancing of a boy at a girl is a kind of pollution, when K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a threw His transcendental glance at the <em>gop\u012bs<\/em> they became purified. In other words, because K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a is the Absolute Truth, any action by Him is transcendentally pure.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208368\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">After K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a chastised the K\u0101liya-n\u0101ga in the Yamun\u0101 River by dancing on his heads, the K\u0101liya-n\u0101ga\u2019s wives addressed K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, \u201cDear cowherd boy, we are all only young wives of the K\u0101liya-n\u0101ga, so why do You agitate our minds by sounding Your flute?\u201d K\u0101liya\u2019s wives were flattering K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a so that He would spare their husband. Therefore this is an example of <em>uparasa,<\/em> or false expression.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208369\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">One devotee said, \u201cMy dear Govinda, here is a nice flowery bush in Kail\u0101sa. I am a young girl, and You are a young poetic boy. After this, what more can I say? You just consider.\u201d This is an example of <em>uparasa,<\/em> caused by impudence in conjugal love.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208370\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When N\u0101rada Muni was passing through V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana, he came to the Bh\u0101\u1e47\u1e0d\u012bra-vana forest and saw in one of the trees the famous parrot couple that always accompanies Lord K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a. The couple was imitating some discussion they had heard upon the Ved\u0101nta philosophy and thus were seemingly arguing upon various philosophical points. Upon seeing this, N\u0101rada Muni was struck with wonder, and he began to stare without moving his eyelids. This is an example of <em>anurasa,<\/em>or imitation.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208371\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a was fleeing from the battlefield, from a distant place Jar\u0101sandha was watching Him with restless eyes and was feeling very proud. Being thus puffed up with his conquest, he was repeatedly laughing. This is an example of <em>aparasa.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"bb1208372\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Everything in connection with K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a is called ecstatic devotional love, although it may be exhibited in different ways: sometimes in the right order and sometimes as a perverted reflection. According to the opinion of all expert devotees, anything that will arouse ecstatic love for K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a is to be taken as an impetus for transcendental mellow.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div id=\"bb1208373\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><em>Thus ends the Bhaktivedanta summary study of <\/em>Bhakti-ras\u0101m\u1e5bta-sindhu<em> by \u015ar\u012bla R\u016bpa Gosv\u0101m\u012b.<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 &nbsp; \u00a0 CHAPTER FIFTY-ONE Perverted Expression of Mellows Ras\u0101bh\u0101sa, or incompatible mixtures of mellows, may be classified as uparasa (false expression), anurasa (imitation) and aparasa (perverted or misrepresented mellows).
