Brilliant as the sun is a very nice translation of the word \u201carka\u201d that we find in Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.43.<\/span>
\nThe complete verse is the following:<\/span><\/p>\n

\ndharma-j\u00f1\u0101n\u0101dibhi\u1e25 saha<\/span>
\nkalau na\u1e63\u1e6da-d\u1e5b\u015b\u0101m e\u1e63a<\/span>
\npur\u0101\u1e47\u0101rko ‘dhunodita\u1e25<\/span>
\n\u201cThis Bh\u0101gavata Pur\u0101\u1e47a is as brilliant as the sun, and it has arisen just after the departure of Lord K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a to His own abode, accompanied by religion, knowledge, etc. Persons who have lost their vision due to the dense darkness of ignorance in the age of Kali shall get light from this Pur\u0101\u1e47a.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Arka is a name for the sun, which is made of light. When the rays of this beautiful star arrive, the darkness of the night disappears.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the beginning of Srimad-Bhagavatam the sages of Naimisaranya asked six questions and one of those was: \u201cnow that Sri Krishna has abandoned the planet, where will we find transcendental knowledge?\u201d<\/span>
\nThis verse answers saying \u201cin the Srimad-Bhagavatam\u201d.<\/span>
\nSo Srimad-Bhagavatam is as brilliant as the Sun.<\/span><\/p>\n
