In the S\u0301ri\u0304mad Bha\u0304gavatam you will find that s\u0301iva-tattva has been discussed in many places. It is stated in the twelfth canto (12.13.16):<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">nimna-ga\u0304na\u0304m\u0307 yatha\u0304 gan\u0307ga\u0304 deva\u0304na\u0304m acyuto yatha\u0304 vais\u0323n\u0323ava\u0304na\u0304m\u0307 yatha\u0304 s\u0301ambhuh\u0323 pura\u0304n\u0323a\u0304na\u0304m idam\u0307 tatha\u0304<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">As the Ganges is the best of all rivers and Lord Vishnu is the best of all Lords, so vais\u0323n\u0323ava\u0304na\u0304m\u0307 yatha\u0304 s\u0301ambhuh\u0323 \u2014 Shambhu, Shankara, Shiva is the chief of vais\u0323n\u0323avas. Similarly, pura\u0304n\u0323a\u0304na\u0304m idam \u2014 of all pura\u0304n\u0323as, idam\u0307 bha\u0304gavatam\u0307 maha\u0304-pura\u0304n\u0323am, S\u0301ri\u0304mad Bha\u0304gavatam, is the best. So Shivaji is a kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a-bhakta, he is a devotee of Krishna. In Caitanya-carita\u0304mr\u0323ta (a\u0304di 6.79-81) it is stated:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">ananta brahma\u0304n\u0323d\u0323e rudra \u2014 sada\u0304s\u0301ivera am\u0307s\u0301a gun\u0323a\u0304vata\u0304ra ten\u0307ho, sarva-deva-avatam\u0307sa<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Rudra, who is an expansion of Sadashiva and who appears in unlimited universes, is also a gun\u0323a\u0304vata\u0304ra, a qualitative incarnation, and is the ornament of all the demigods in the endless universes.<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"page\" title=\"Page 2\">\n<div class=\"layoutArea\">\n<div class=\"column\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">ten\u0307ho karena kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323era da\u0304sya-pratya\u0304s\u0301a nirantara kahe s\u0301iva, \u2018mun\u0303i kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a-da\u0304sa\u2019<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">He also desires only to be a servant of Lord Krishna. Sri Sadashiva always says, \u201cI am a servant of Lord Krishna.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a-preme unmatta, vihvala digambara kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a-gun\u0323a-li\u0304la\u0304 ga\u0304ya, na\u0304ce nirantara<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Intoxicated by ecstatic love for Lord Krishna, he becomes overwhelmed and incessantly dances without clothing and sings about Lord Krishna\u2019s qualities and pastimes.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">This is Shiva. He is a kr\u0323s\u0323n\u0323a-bhakta, a dear devotee of Krishna. Again in S\u0301ri\u0304mad Bha\u0304gavatam (12.10.34) Markandeya Muni offers this prayer to Lord Shiva:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">varam ekam\u0307 vr\u0323n\u0323e \u2018tha\u0304pi pu\u0304rn\u0323a\u0304t ka\u0304ma\u0304bhivars\u0323an\u0323a\u0304t bhagavaty acyuta\u0304m\u0307 bhaktim\u0307 tat-pares\u0323u tatha\u0304 tvayi<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u201cO Shivaji, you are completely full, pu\u0304rn\u0323a. You fulfill all the desires of your devotees; therefore, seeing you, I am offering this prayer. Please fulfill my desire. Let me have unflinching bhakti unto Krishna and unto you, who are completely surrendered unto Krishna.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">In many places you will find this s\u0301iva-tattva. In S\u0301ri\u0304mad Bha\u0304gavatam (4.30.38) the Prachetas say to Lord Vishnu:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">vayam\u0307 tu sa\u0304ks\u0323a\u0304d bhagavan bhavasya priyasya sakhyuh\u0323 ks\u0323an\u0323a-san\u0307gamena<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">sudus\u0301cikitsyasya bhavasya mr\u0323tyor bhis\u0323aktamam\u0307 tva\u0304dya gatim\u0307 gata\u0304h\u0323 sma<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u201cDear Lord, by virtue of a moment\u2019s association with Lord Shiva, who is very dear to You and who is Your most intimate friend, we were fortunate to attain You. You are the most expert physician, capable of treating the incurable disease of material existence. On account of our great fortune we have been able to take shelter at Your lotus feet.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u201cBecause of association with Lord Shiva for a moment we got this opportunity to meet you. priyasya sakhyuh\u0323 \u2014 Shiva is Your very intimate friend.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u2014 From a Lecture in Bhubaneswar, 16 February 1994.
