The Vedas provide two \r\nkinds of knowledge - para and apara. Apara vidya consists of knowledge \r\nwhich leads to material prosperity, but para vidya leads one to moksha \r\nor liberation. Para vidya consists of the right knowledge of God and \r\nthe means of reaching Him. Certainly, para vidya is superior to apara \r\nvidya. This para vidya of the Vedas is contained in the heart of the \r\nVedas, the Upanisads. \r\n\r\nThe Upanisads are also known as Vedanta or the conclusions of the Vedas.\r\nIt is impossible to overstate the influence of the Upanisads on the \r\nmajor philosophical systems of India, including the Advaita, Visistadvaita,\r\nand the Dvaita. \r\n\r\nThe Vaisnava Acharyas are, of course, quite emphatic in prescribing \r\nBhakti as the only means of achieving moksha in this age, the Kali \r\nYuga. Madhva quotes the following from the Narayana Samhita in his \r\ncommentary on the Mundaka Upanisad:\r\n\r\ndvAparIyair janair viSNuH \r\npancarAtrais tu kevalaiH\r\nkalau tu nAma mAtreNa\r\npUjyate bhagavAn hariH\r\n\r\n\"In the Dvapara Yuga, people worshiped Vishnu according to the \r\nprinciples described in the Pancaratra. In the Kali Yuga, Bhagavan \r\nHari is to be worshiped simply by chanting His names.\"\r\n\r\nMadhva writes in his famous Dvadasha Stotra:\r\n\r\nSRNutAmalasatyavacaH paramam Sa patheritam ucchrita bAhu yugam\r\nna hareH paramo na hareH sadRSaH paramaH sa tu sarva cidAtma gaNAt\r\n\r\n\"Listen (O devotees) to the pure and true words which I proclaim with \r\nuplifted arms! There is none superior to Hari; there is none equal or \r\nsimilar to Hari. Certainly, He is superior to the host of all sentient \r\nbeings.\"\r\n\r\nThe Kalisantarana Upanisad of the Krishna Yajur Veda instructs us to \r\nperform the japa of the names of Hara (Radha), Rama and Krishna. It \r\nasserts that this mantra is the best way to overcome the evils of Kali \r\nYuga. The mantra may be chanted without any restrictions or injunctions, \r\nwhether one is in a clean or unclean state. \r\n\r\nThe crest-jewel of all Vaishnava scriptures, the Bhagavata, recommends \r\nthe chanting of the divine names of Krishna, and thus echoes the \r\nteaching of the Upanisad. \r\n\r\nkaler doSa nidhe rAjan nasti hy eko mahAn guNaH\r\nkIrtanAd eva kRSNasya mukta sangaH param vrajet 12.3.51\r\n\r\n\"In the repository of faults\/evils that is Kali Yuga, O King (Parikshit),\r\nthere is one great virtue.
