Lord Brahma became very angry and was about to curse him. Bhrigu had to flee hurriedly to save himself.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Secondly, he reached Kailasha to meet his brother Lord Shiva. Instead of greeting Him, Bhrigu insulted him in front of mother Parvati and told him many bad words. The Lord became angry and was about to kill him.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Again, the sage had to run from the spot.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Then, he went to Visnu\u2019s abode where the Lord was sleeping and mother Lakshmi was massaging His legs.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When Bhrigu arrived, he kicked the Lord on His chest. Not feeling at all offended, Vishnu fell on Bhrigu\u2019s feet and asked for forgiveness because His chest was hard as a stone.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">So, it was clear who was the greatest between the Trimurti.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">But Laksmi Devi, who resides on the point of the chest Bhrigu kicked, did not like Bhrigu\u2019s action and cursed not just him but all the Brahmanas.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">She said:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u0906\u091c \u0938\u0947 \u092e\u0947\u0902 \u0915\u093f\u0938\u0940 \u092c\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0939\u094d\u092e\u0923 \u0915\u093e<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u0918\u0930 \u092e\u0947\u0902 \u0928\u093f\u0935\u093e\u0938 \u0928\u0939\u0940\u0902 \u0915\u0930\u0942\u0902\u0917\u0940 \u0964<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u201cFrom today, I\u2019ll never stay in any <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Brahmana\u2019s house.\u201d<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Since Laksmi is the goddess of fortune, the Brahmanas were so destined to remain poor.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">She also said to Visnu that he had to punish Bhrigu and not apologizing to him.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Feeling disappointed, Laksmi Devi left Vaikuntha and descended on the Earth at Kolhapur in today\u2019s Maharastra state.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">When He realized that Laksmi was gone, Lord Vishnu started searching for His beloved. Heart-broken, He meditated at Sesacalam and an anthill formed over Him.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Out of devotion, a cow started to pour all her milk over this very anthill as an offering to Visnu. The cowherd got angry as she was giving away all her milk and nothing was left. And so, the cowherd threw his axe towards the cow to kill her.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">But Lord Visnu intervened to protect her and the axe hit Him on the head, causing a large gash. When the cowherd realized what he had done, he left his body in repentance.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The Gandharva princess Nila Devi was passing by and witnessed this event. She was sorry to see Visnu with this injury. So, she cut her hair and with that covered the Lord\u2019s wound and balding scalp.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">In response to this chivalrous act, Lord Visnu declared that He will ever be pleased with whoever devotee donates his hair, as it will help him clear his debt towards the princess.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">This is why Lord Visnu\u2019s devotees shave their hairs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Lord Vishnu meanwhile fell in love with Princess Padmavati, who had been found by the king in a field on a lotus flower.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">In her previous life Padmavati was Vedavati, the daughter of Rishi Kusadhvaja.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Vedavati was destined to marry Lord Visnu, but when she was pursued and harassed by the wicked Ravana, she took refuge with Agnideva. Vedavati pledged to return and be the cause of Ravana\u2019s death and destruction. She took birth again as Sita Devi.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">You find all this nice story in the Uttara Kanda of the Valmiki Ramayana.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Vedavati was the Maya Sita and when Sita came out of the fire, Agni asked Rama to marry Vedavati also. But Lord Rama had pledged to have only one wife, so He promised Agni that He will marry Vedavati in Kaliyuga.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Vedavati took birth as princess Padmavati and Visnu married her. They got married in the Sri Kalyana Venkatesvarasvami temple in Tirupati as a fulfillment of that promise.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">But the wedding was very expensive and, since Laksmi Devi had left Him, Visnu had no so much money. So Kuvera gave Him the money at the condition that He will not leave Tirupati till the loan is repaid.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">And Visnu is still there, unable to repay Kuvera.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Goddess Lakshmi became angry on learning about this wedding. But on learning that the wedding happened due to fulfilling of several past happenings, She once again returned to Lord Vishnu\u2019s heart and remained there forever as His co-bestower of blessings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Padmavati is still worshipped in Tirupati as an aspect of Goddess Lakshmi.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">These are the events, which explain why devotees worship Padmavati in the temple.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">At the end of this story, Laksmi Devi became pleased with all the devotees and blessed them by saying:<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u092a\u0930\u0902\u0924\u0941 \u092e\u0948 \u0928\u093e\u0930\u093e\u092f\u0923 \u0914\u0930 \u092a\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0924\u0903 \u092e\u0939\u093e\u0926\u0947\u0935<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u092d\u0915\u094d\u0924 \u092c\u094d\u0930\u093e\u0939\u094d\u092e\u0923\u094b \u0915\u093e \u0918\u0930 \u092e\u0947\u0902 \u0928\u093f\u0935\u093e\u0938 \u0915\u0930\u0942\u0902\u0917\u0940<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">\u201cI will stay in the houses of Lord Visnu\u2019s devotees and also in the houses of Lord Shiva\u2019s devotees.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">To answer to a question related to this story, being a Brahmana by Varna and being a Brahmana by initiation are two different things.
