And thus at first there was the creation of the sixteen principles of material action. This was for the purpose of creating the material universes.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13769\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/2\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 2:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>A part of the puru\u1e63a lies down within the water of the universe, from the navel lake of His body sprouts a lotus stem, and from the lotus flower atop this stem, Brahm\u0101, the master of all engineers in the universe, becomes manifest.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13777\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/3\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 3:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>It is believed that all the universal planetary systems are situated on the extensive body of the puru\u1e63a, but He has nothing to do with the created material ingredients. His body is eternally in spiritual existence par excellence.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13782\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/4\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 4:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The devotees, with their perfect eyes, see the transcendental form of the puru\u1e63a who has thousands of legs, thighs, arms and faces \u2014 all extraordinary. In that body there are thousands of heads, ears, eyes and noses. They are decorated with thousands of helmets and glowing earrings and are adorned with garlands.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13787\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/5\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 5:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>This form [the second manifestation of the puru\u1e63a] is the source and indestructible seed of multifarious incarnations within the universe. From the particles and portions of this form, different living entities, like demigods, men and others, are created.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13800\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/6\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 6:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>First of all, in the beginning of creation, there were the four unmarried sons of Brahm\u0101 [the Kum\u0101ras], who, being situated in a vow of celibacy, underwent severe austerities for realization of the Absolute Truth.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13805\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/7\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 7:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The supreme enjoyer of all sacrifices accepted the incarnation of a boar [the second incarnation], and for the welfare of the earth He lifted the earth from the nether regions of the universe.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13810\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/8\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 8:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the millennium of the \u1e5b\u1e63is, the Personality of Godhead accepted the third empowered incarnation in the form of Devar\u1e63i N\u0101rada, who is a great sage among the demigods. He collected expositions of the Vedas which deal with devotional service and which inspire nonfruitive action.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13815\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/9\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 9:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the fourth incarnation, the Lord became Nara and N\u0101r\u0101ya\u1e47a, the twin sons of the wife of King Dharma. Thus He undertook severe and exemplary penances to control the senses.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13820\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/10\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 10:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The fifth incarnation, named Lord Kapila, is foremost among perfected beings. He gave an exposition of the creative elements and metaphysics to \u0100suri Br\u0101hma\u1e47a, for in course of time this knowledge had been lost.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13825\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/11\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 11:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The sixth incarnation of the puru\u1e63a was the son of the sage Atri. He was born from the womb of Anas\u016by\u0101, who prayed for an incarnation. He spoke on the subject of transcendence to Alarka, Prahl\u0101da and others [Yadu, Haihaya, etc.].<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13830\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/12\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 12:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The seventh incarnation was Yaj\u00f1a, the son of Praj\u0101pati Ruci and his wife \u0100k\u016bti. He controlled the period during the change of the Sv\u0101yambhuva Manu and was assisted by demigods such as His son Y\u0101ma.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13835\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/13\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 13:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The eighth incarnation was King \u1e5a\u1e63abha, son of King N\u0101bhi and his wife Merudev\u012b. In this incarnation the Lord showed the path of perfection, which is followed by those who have fully controlled their senses and who are honored by all orders of life.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13840\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/14\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 14:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>O br\u0101hma\u1e47as, in the ninth incarnation, the Lord, prayed for by sages, accepted the body of a king [P\u1e5bthu] who cultivated the land to yield various produce, and for that reason the earth was beautiful and attractive.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13845\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/15\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 15:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>When there was a complete inundation after the period of the C\u0101k\u1e63u\u1e63a Manu and the whole world was deep within water, the Lord accepted the form of a fish and protected Vaivasvata Manu, keeping him up on a boat.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13850\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/16\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 16:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The eleventh incarnation of the Lord took the form of a tortoise whose shell served as a pivot for the Mandar\u0101cala Hill, which was being used as a churning rod by the theists and atheists of the universe.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13855\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/17\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 17:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the twelfth incarnation, the Lord appeared as Dhanvantari, and in the thirteenth He allured the atheists by the charming beauty of a woman and gave nectar to the demigods to drink.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13859\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/18\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 18:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the fourteenth incarnation, the Lord appeared as N\u1e5bsi\u1e41ha and bifurcated the strong body of the atheist Hira\u1e47yaka\u015bipu with His nails, just as a carpenter pierces cane.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13863\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/19\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 19:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the fifteenth incarnation, the Lord assumed the form of a dwarf br\u0101hma\u1e47a [V\u0101mana] and visited the arena of sacrifice arranged by Mah\u0101r\u0101ja Bali. Although at heart He was willing to regain the kingdom of the three planetary systems, He simply asked for a donation of three steps of land.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13868\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/20\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 20:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the sixteenth incarnation of the Godhead, the Lord [as Bh\u1e5bgupati] annihilated the administrative class [k\u1e63atriyas] twenty-one times, being angry with them because of their rebellion against the br\u0101hma\u1e47as [the intelligent class].<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13873\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/21\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 21:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Thereafter, in the seventeenth incarnation of Godhead, \u015ar\u012b Vy\u0101sadeva appeared in the womb of Satyavat\u012b through Par\u0101\u015bara Muni, and he divided the one Veda into several branches and subbranches, seeing that the people in general were less intelligent.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13878\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/22\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 22:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the eighteenth incarnation, the Lord appeared as King R\u0101ma. In order to perform some pleasing work for the demigods, He exhibited superhuman powers by controlling the Indian Ocean and then killing the atheist King R\u0101va\u1e47a, who was on the other side of the sea.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13883\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/23\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 23:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>In the nineteenth and twentieth incarnations, the Lord advented Himself as Lord Balar\u0101ma and Lord K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a in the family of V\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47i [the Yadu dynasty], and by so doing He removed the burden of the world.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13888\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/24\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 24:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Then, in the beginning of Kali-yuga, the Lord will appear as Lord Buddha, the son of A\u00f1jan\u0101, in the province of Gay\u0101, just for the purpose of deluding those who are envious of the faithful theist.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13899\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/25\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 25:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Thereafter, at the conjunction of two yugas, the Lord of the creation will take His birth as the Kalki incarnation and become the son of Vi\u1e63\u1e47u Ya\u015b\u0101. At this time almost all the rulers of the earth will have degenerated into plunderers.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13904\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/26\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 26:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>O br\u0101hma\u1e47as, the incarnations of the Lord are innumerable, like rivulets flowing from inexhaustible sources of water.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13909\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/27\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 27:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>All the \u1e5b\u1e63is, Manus, demigods and descendants of Manu, who are especially powerful, are plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord. This also includes the Praj\u0101patis.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13914\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/28\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 28:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>All of the above-mentioned incarnations are either plenary portions or portions of the plenary portions of the Lord, but Lord \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a is the original Personality of Godhead. All of them appear on planets whenever there is a disturbance created by the atheists. The Lord incarnates to protect the theists.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13922\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/29\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 29:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Whoever carefully recites the mysterious appearances of the Lord, with devotion in the morning and in the evening, gets relief from all miseries of life.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13927\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/30\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 30:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The conception of the vir\u0101\u1e6d universal form of the Lord, as appearing in the material world, is imaginary. It is to enable the less intelligent [and neophytes] to adjust to the idea of the Lord\u2019s having form. But factually the Lord has no material form.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13932\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/31\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 31:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Clouds and dust are carried by the air, but less intelligent persons say that the sky is cloudy and the air is dirty. Similarly, they also implant material bodily conceptions on the spirit self.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13937\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/32\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 32:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Beyond this gross conception of form is another, subtle conception of form which is without formal shape and is unseen, unheard and unmanifest. The living being has his form beyond this subtlety, otherwise he could not have repeated births.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13943\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/33\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 33:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Whenever a person experiences, by self-realization, that both the gross and subtle bodies have nothing to do with the pure self, at that time he sees himself as well as the Lord.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13949\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/34\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 34:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>If the illusory energy subsides and the living entity becomes fully enriched with knowledge by the grace of the Lord, then he becomes at once enlightened with self-realization and thus becomes situated in his own glory.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13954\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/35\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 35:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Thus learned men describe the births and activities of the unborn and inactive, which is undiscoverable even in the Vedic literatures. He is the Lord of the heart.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13959\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/36\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 36:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The Lord, whose activities are always spotless, is the master of the six senses and is fully omnipotent with six opulences. He creates the manifested universes, maintains them and annihilates them without being in the least affected. He is within every living being and is always independent.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13964\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/37\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 37:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>The foolish with a poor fund of knowledge cannot know the transcendental nature of the forms, names and activities of the Lord, who is playing like an actor in a drama. Nor can they express such things, neither in their speculations nor in their words.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13969\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/38\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 38:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Only those who render unreserved, uninterrupted, favorable service unto the lotus feet of Lord K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, who carries the wheel of the chariot in His hand, can know the creator of the universe in His full glory, power and transcendence.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13974\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/39\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 39:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>Only by making such inquiries in this world can one be successful and perfectly cognizant, for such inquiries invoke transcendental ecstatic love unto the Personality of Godhead, who is the proprietor of all the universes, and guarantee cent-percent immunity from the dreadful repetition of birth and death.<\/dd>\n<\/dl>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<dl id=\"bb13979\" class=\"r r-verse\">\n<dt><a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/1\/3\/40\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Text 40:<\/a><\/dt>\n<dd>This <a href=\"https:\/\/vedabase.io\/en\/library\/sb\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">\u015ar\u012bmad-Bh\u0101gavatam<\/a> is the literary incarnation of God, and it is compiled by \u015ar\u012bla Vy\u0101sadeva, the incarnation of God.
