font-size: 16px;\">Translation<\/span><\/h2>\n<div id=\"bb13458\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-translation\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; color: #ff0000;\">The sages said: <br \/>\nRespected S\u016bta Gosv\u0101m\u012b, you are completely free from all vice. <br \/>\nYou are well versed in all the scriptures famous for religious life, and in the Pur\u0101\u1e47as and the histories as well, for you have gone through them under proper guidance and have also explained them.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"wrapper-puport\">\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p class=\"section-title\"><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Purport<\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"rich-text\">\n<div id=\"bb13459\" class=\"r r-lang-en r-paragraph\">\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">A <i>gosv\u0101m\u012b,<\/i> or the bona fide representative of \u015ar\u012b Vy\u0101sadeva, must be free from all kinds of vices. The four major vices of Kali-yuga are (1) illicit connection with women, (2) animal slaughter, (3) intoxication, (4) speculative gambling of all sorts. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">A <i>gosv\u0101m\u012b<\/i> must be free from all these vices before he can dare sit on the <i>vy\u0101s\u0101sana.<\/i> No one should be allowed to sit on the <i>vy\u0101s\u0101sana<\/i> who is not spotless in character and who is not freed from the above-mentioned vices. He not only should be freed from all such vices, but must also be well versed in all revealed scriptures or in the <i>Vedas.<\/i> The <i>Pur\u0101\u1e47as<\/i> are also parts of the <i>Vedas.<\/i> And histories like the <i>Mah\u0101bh\u0101rata<\/i> or <i>R\u0101m\u0101ya\u1e47a<\/i> are also parts of the <i>Vedas.<\/i> The <i>\u0101c\u0101rya<\/i> or the <i>gosv\u0101m\u012b<\/i> must be well acquainted with all these literatures. To hear and explain them is more important than reading them. One can assimilate the knowledge of the revealed scriptures only by hearing and explaining. Hearing is called <i>\u015brava\u1e47a,<\/i> and explaining is called <i>k\u012brtana.<\/i> The two processes of <i>\u015brava\u1e47a<\/i> and <i>k\u012brtana<\/i> are of primary importance to progressive spiritual life.
