{"id":11152,"date":"2020-08-13T12:53:59","date_gmt":"2020-08-13T16:53:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.isvara.org\/archive\/?p=11152"},"modified":"2022-02-09T01:20:49","modified_gmt":"2022-02-09T06:20:49","slug":"nectar-of-instruction-only-verses-in-english","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.isvara.org\/archive\/nectar-of-instruction-only-verses-in-english\/","title":{"rendered":"Nectar of Instruction, only verses in English"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text One:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">A sober person who can tolerate the urge to speak, the mind\u2019s demands, the actions of anger and the urges of the tongue, belly and genitals is qualified to make disciples all over the world.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Two:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">One\u2019s devotional service is spoiled when he becomes too entangled in the following six activities: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(1) eating more than necessary or collecting more funds than required; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(2) over-endeavoring for mundane things that are very difficult to obtain; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(3) talking unnecessarily about mundane subject matters; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(4) practicing the scriptural rules and regulations only for the sake of following them and not for the sake of spiritual advancement, or rejecting the rules and regulations of the scriptures and working independently or whimsically; <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(5) associating with worldly-minded persons who are not interested in K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a consciousness; and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(6) being greedy for mundane achievements.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Three:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">There are six principles favorable to the execution of pure devotional service: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(1) being enthusiastic, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(2) endeavoring with confidence, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(3) being patient, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(4) acting according to regulative principles [such as \u015brava\u1e47a\u1e41 k\u012brtana\u1e41 vi\u1e63\u1e47o\u1e25 smara\u1e47am \u2013 hearing, chanting and remembering K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a], <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(5) abandoning the association of nondevotees, and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">(6) following in the footsteps of the previous \u0101c\u0101ryas. These six principles undoubtedly assure the complete success of pure devotional service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Four:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Offering gifts in charity, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">accepting charitable gifts, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">revealing one\u2019s mind in confidence, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">inquiring confidentially, <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">accepting pras\u0101da and <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">offering pras\u0101da <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">are the six symptoms of love shared by one devotee and another.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Five:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">One should mentally honor the devotee who chants the holy name of Lord K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, one should offer humble obeisances to the devotee who has undergone spiritual initiation [d\u012bk\u1e63\u0101] and is engaged in worshiping the Deity, and one should associate with and faithfully serve that pure devotee who is advanced in undeviated devotional service and whose heart is completely devoid of the propensity to criticize others.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Six:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Being situated in his original K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a conscious position, a pure devotee does not identify with the body. Such a devotee should not be seen from a materialistic point of view. Indeed, one should overlook a devotee\u2019s having a body born in a low family, a body with a bad complexion, a deformed body, or a diseased or infirm body. According to ordinary vision, such imperfections may seem prominent in the body of a pure devotee, but despite such seeming defects, the body of a pure devotee cannot be polluted. It is exactly like the waters of the Ganges, which sometimes during the rainy season are full of bubbles, foam and mud. The Ganges waters do not become polluted. Those who are advanced in spiritual understanding will bathe in the Ganges without considering the condition of the water.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Seven:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The holy name, character, pastimes and activities of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a are all transcendentally sweet like sugar candy. Although the tongue of one afflicted by the jaundice of avidy\u0101 [ignorance] cannot taste anything sweet, it is wonderful that simply by carefully chanting these sweet names every day, a natural relish awakens within his tongue, and his disease is gradually destroyed at the root.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Eight:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The essence of all advice is that one should utilize one\u2019s full time \u2013 twenty-four hours a day \u2013 in nicely chanting and remembering the Lord\u2019s divine name, transcendental form, qualities and eternal pastimes, thereby gradually engaging one\u2019s tongue and mind. In this way one should reside in Vraja [Goloka V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana-dh\u0101ma] and serve K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a under the guidance of devotees. One should follow in the footsteps of the Lord\u2019s beloved devotees, who are deeply attached to His devotional service.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Nine:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">The holy place known as Mathur\u0101 is spiritually superior to Vaiku\u1e47\u1e6dha, the transcendental world, because the Lord appeared there. Superior to Mathur\u0101-pur\u012b is the transcendental forest of V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana because of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a\u2019s r\u0101sa-l\u012bl\u0101 pastimes. And superior to the forest of V\u1e5bnd\u0101vana is Govardhana Hill, for it was raised by the divine hand of \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a and was the site of His various loving pastimes. And, above all, the superexcellent \u015ar\u012b R\u0101dh\u0101-ku\u1e47\u1e0da stands supreme, for it is overflooded with the ambrosial nectarean prema of the Lord of Gokula, \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a. Where, then, is that intelligent Person who is unwilling to serve this divine R\u0101dh\u0101-ku\u1e47\u1e0da, which is situated at the foot of Govardhana Hill?<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Ten:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">In the \u015b\u0101stra it is said that of all types of fruitive workers, he who is advanced in knowledge of the higher values of life is favored by the Supreme Lord Hari. Out of many such people who are advanced in knowledge [j\u00f1\u0101n\u012bs], one who is practically liberated by virtue of his knowledge may take to devotional service. He is superior to the others. However, one who has actually attained prema, pure love of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, is superior to him. The gop\u012bs are exalted above all the advanced devotees because they are always totally dependent upon \u015ar\u012b K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a, the transcendental cowherd boy. Among the gop\u012bs, \u015ar\u012bmat\u012b R\u0101dh\u0101r\u0101\u1e47\u012b is the most dear to K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a. Her ku\u1e47\u1e0da [lake] is as profoundly dear to Lord K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a as this most beloved of the gop\u012bs. Who, then, will not reside at R\u0101dh\u0101-ku\u1e47\u1e0da and, in a spiritual body surcharged with ecstatic devotional feelings [apr\u0101k\u1e5bta-bh\u0101va], render loving service to the Divine Couple \u015ar\u012b \u015ar\u012b R\u0101dh\u0101-Govinda, who perform Their a\u1e63\u1e6da-k\u0101l\u012bya-l\u012bl\u0101, Their eternal eightfold daily pastimes. Indeed, those who execute devotional service on the banks of R\u0101dh\u0101-ku\u1e47\u1e0da are the most fortunate people in the universe.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\n<span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\"><strong>Text Eleven:<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: verdana, geneva, sans-serif; font-size: 16px;\">Of the many objects of favored delight and of all the lovable damsels of Vraja-bh\u016bmi, \u015ar\u012bmat\u012b R\u0101dh\u0101r\u0101\u1e47\u012b is certainly the most treasured object of K\u1e5b\u1e63\u1e47a\u2019s love. And, in every respect, Her divine ku\u1e47\u1e0da is described by great sages as similarly dear to Him. Undoubtedly R\u0101dh\u0101-ku\u1e47\u1e0da is very rarely attained even by the great devotees; therefore it is even more difficult for ordinary devotees to attain.
