Smelling items like tulasi leaves destroys the urge to smell strong, agitating scents. Attachment for aromatic substances leads one into many dangers in this world. By smearing their bodies with perfume, foolish people invite anarthas like debauchery and laziness to visit them. To control this urge, if one first offers the sweet-smelling tulasi leaves and sandalwood paste to the Lord, then honors them, he can simultaneously control his senses and cultivate spiritual consciousness.
