Once Lord Balarama was sitting on top of Govardhana Hill and this point, and He saw Lord Krishna and the gopis engaging in rasa dance. He became so captivated that He became transfixed and stared and stared at them. Finally His body turned blackish through being so absorbed on meditating on Lord Krishna, so the Deity here is blackish and crouching.

This area is very dear to Lord Balarama.

Just at the foot of Govardhana here, just to the left of the path leading up to the temple there is a mukut shila, where Lord Balarama’s crown fell and left its impression while He was watching.

Dauji means “elder brother”. Doka means “staring”.
