A Description of Jambudvipa

Postby bhaktarichard » Sunday 5 February 2017, 7:56

Dear Guru Maharaja,
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to You and Srila Prabhupada.

What is the point of the chapter of the S.B. entitled "A Description of Jambudvipa?"

Why is it necessary that we know about this planet or universe? Thank you.

Your servant
Bhakta Richard

The first answer would be: if it is included in the Srimad-Bhagavatam must be important. In fact nor Krishna nor the vedic sages like Vyasadeva and Sukadeva Gosvami would say something useless.
Srimad-Bhagavatam is the amala-purana, the perfect Purana. Everything we find there is important.

As a second answer we say that not everything we find in the sastra maybe so important to us in this precise moment.

I'll explain myself better.

An example: looking for a specific topic in a book we'll find a lot of information that do not interest us right now, because we are after something else. Not that those other things are less important, but right now we are looking for something else.

If you are born with an intellectual mind you'll find those chapter extremely exiting. If instead you are born with an another nature you'll find them boring and impossible to understand.
So the intellectuals will purify their intelligence by studying how Brahma built the universe. It is spiritual because it is the Lord's creation.

Also, those who are advanced spiritually but not so intellectually inclined will find wonderful just reading how artistic the Lord is.

So, read those chapters, don't pretend to understand them and after proceed to the next.
